Locations Below are the duty locations where positions may be filled under this announcement: Fort Stockton, TX El Paso, TX Job Purpose To manage and direct the safe and proper construction of transmission and distribution power lines.
Duties and responsibilities • Supervise the construction and maintenance of the distribution and transmission facilities of RGEC in conformity with established standards and Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Specifications • Must be able to issue clear directions to construction crew and effectively manage daily workload and schedules • Ensure all jobs are completed in accordance with corporate specifications and timeframe • Ensures consistent information regarding direction of line feed, location of reclosing, and switching devices • Receive clearance and issue instructions to energize or de-energize lines and determine compliance with all safety precautions and regulations, when opening and closing energized lines • Able to work with contractors and establish a professional relationship to deliver projects within deadline • Required to be on the construction site constantly in order to ensure set standards are adhered • Attend meetings with respective department(s) and contractors • Coordinate and communicate with warehouse coordinators on documented Material Charge Outs, Returns, and Transfers • Ensure direct supervision and documentation of material transfer to contractors during reviewing, framing, and construction of RUS assemblies, as required • Develop and promote the required adherence to all established safety rules, regulations, and practices • Perform other jobs as directed • Learn and comply with Cooperative’s safety rules and procedures • Maintain confidential information Qualifications • 15 years’ experience in electrical distribution and transmission facilities preferred • Specialized training in maintenance and construction of overhead and underground power lines • Must be able to read staking sheets and order materials for projects, as required • Experience includes all phases of construction, maintenance, and system operation • Two-year management/supervisory experience desired • Must become familiar with various software applications (i.
e.
NISC-iVUE software including AppSuite, work order workflow, etc.
) • Must possess knowledge of RUS Materials and Specifications for Line Construction, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Regulations • Possess a valid Texas drivers’ license • Insurable with the Cooperative’s auto insurance carrier • Possess oral and written communication skills in the English language • Possess good interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain a harmonious working relationship with all Cooperative employees • Must be or become certified in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation Working conditions • To ensure all employees are provided with drug free and alcohol-free working conditions, pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and random drug and alcohol tests are conducted on all employees • Subject to irregular hours, which may include nights, holidays and weekends • Must be able to work under adverse weather conditions, such as extreme heat, cold, high winds or stormy conditions • Subject to travel, including multiple overnight stay(s) • Requires lifting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and/or carrying of various weights • Sitting/standing/ walking for extended periods of time Direct reports n/a _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Rio Grande Electric Cooperative, Inc.
(RGEC) was organized in 1945 to enhance the quality of life for rural residents by providing electric service where none existed.
Today, at over 35,000 square miles, RGEC has the largest service territory of any electric cooperative in the contiguous United States, serving 18 counties in Texas, and two counties in New Mexico.
While it still serves rural areas, many metropolitan areas have expanded into RGEC’s territory, which now includes hospitals, schools, and urban housing developments.
The Cooperative was also selected by the military to be the electrical maintenance provider for Fort Bliss, El Paso, and Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio.
RGEC currently employs a compliment of 169 people to serve 7,163 members with 14,423 meters.
It maintains offices in Alpine, Brackettville, Carrizo Springs, Dell City, El Paso, and Fort Stockton, with the Brackettville office serving as corporate headquarters.
The Co-op maintains 10,039 miles of energized line of which 126 miles are transmission line, 202 miles are underground line, and 9,711 are overhead energized line.
RGEC maintains the electrical distribution systems for Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, and Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio, Texas.
